Website Link Structure and Architecture For On-Site Optimization

Website Link Structure and Architecture For On-Site OptimizationMy main objective is to provide some tips on how to set up a site correctly in aspect of it’s architecture and url structure.

URL Rewrite Duplicate Pages & Incorrect URL structure/default:

  • Optimize Site’s Data from the Domain Development Map Sheet to it’s optimum seo quality.
  • Delete all url rewrites (We need to ask mike what are his objectives in using URL Rewrite and creating these 301 Redirects)

In case you don’t know how to do this try this

To delete all the URL rewrites from the Magento admin backend, you can do the following:

Using your favorite database browser, connect to your Magento database

Go to the table named ‘core_url_rewrite’

Empty this table

Log back in to the Magento backend and re-index all of them please.

This action will clear out all manually and system created rewrites and recreate only the needed ones (e.g. current products and categories)

  • Re-Categorize All product  witl the Clean HTML Structure Descriptions and Keyword Rich Added content and meta data.

Ex #2. 301 Redirect Wrong URL Creation

Title: Large Scripted Monogram Necklace (40mm)

We need to set standard that our url key will follow/be similar to the page/product title.

So if we’re going to fix all of these site architecture issue I recommend let’s start a development site using the current theme, have the same design and look, also structure the same categories in the navigation menu and set up the url settings correctly, then re-import all products with the clean, categorized and optimized data.

The majority of my experience in taking on a project where most e-commerce sites problems are duplicate content and category url re-write set up. So if you’re setting up an e-commerce site make sure you’re optimizing it to it’s full seo friendly state where you set up the url base on the url path and key and it’s near to root.

For categorization don’t set it up like /category/product-page.html because this have the potential of creating duplicate content. Instead, use breadcrumbs to make url short, near to root and you’ll have the potential to have a rich snippet presentation of your meta data in SERPS.

So basically, don’t forget about this little tiny details to avoid having on-site issues which will not get your website to perform well in search engines.
